Behind the Poll
There is no question that the United States is in debt. The national debt currently stands at over $22 trillion and is increasing every year. The interest on this debt costs taxpayers over $400 billion annually. Under President Biden, the debt is expected to increase by an additional $7 trillion over the next ten years.
Some argue that this is a necessary evil and that the debt is manageable. They point to the fact that the debt has been increasing for years and yet the economy has still grown. They argue that the debt is only a problem if it becomes unmanageable and that it is not at that point yet.
Others argue that this is a dangerous path that will lead to the downfall of the United States. They point to other countries that have gone bankrupt due to their debt and argue that it is only a matter of time before the same thing happens to the United States.
At this point, it is impossible to say definitively whether or not increasing the debt is a good or bad idea. However, it is something that should be carefully considered before taking any further action. The consequences of increasing the debt are unknown, but they could be very severe.
