Behind the Poll
There is no doubt that our Founding Fathers never envisioned professional politicians when they created the role of representative in Congress. The idea was that citizens would serve their terms and then return to their lives as private citizens. But that’s not how it has worked out. These days, members of Congress often become career politicians, staying in office for decades. Some people think this is a good thing, because it gives them the experience and expertise to get things done. Others think it’s a bad thing, because it leads to corruption and a lack of fresh ideas. What do you think?
There are pros and cons to having term limits on Congress. On the plus side, it would force members of Congress to rotate out of office, giving other people a chance to serve. This could lead to more fresh ideas and new perspectives on the issues. It could also help to reduce corruption, since members of Congress would not be able to stay in office long enough to amass too much power. On the downside, term limits could lead to a lot of inexperienced members of Congress, who might not be able to get anything done. There could also be a lot of turnover, which could make it difficult to get anything done in Congress at all. What do you think?
There is no easy answer when it comes to whether or not there should be term limits on Congress. Both sides of the argument have valid points. Ultimately, it comes down to a matter of opinion. What do you think? Should there be term limits on Congress?
