Behind the Poll
In an op-ed for the Washington Examiner, Sen. Marco Rubio called for an end to daylight savings time. Rubio argued that the twice-yearly time change is disruptive and doesn’t make sense in the 21st century. “It’s time for daylight savings time to end,” Rubio wrote. “It’s an outdated, unnatural, and unhealthy practice that we should no longer observe.”
Supporters of Rubio’s position argue that the time change is disruptive to our natural body clocks and can lead to health problems. They also point out that there is no evidence that daylight savings time actually saves energy, as was the original intention when it was enacted in the early 20th century.
Opponents of ending daylight savings time argue that it is a long-standing tradition that shouldn’t be changed. They also argue that the time change can actually be beneficial, providing an extra hour of daylight in the evenings during the summer months.
Ultimately, whether or not to end daylight savings time is a complex issue with arguments on both sides. There is no easy answer, but it is something that should be open to debate.
